It's quite cold like
winter in Taiwan. so better bring your winter coat and warm clothes.
Train
ticket is very expensive as everyboday knows. the other option is take the bus.
it's half the
price but double the time. check out the price and timetable
here. http://www.gobycoach.com/
I've
checked out the train ticket price for your journey at http://www.thetrainline.com/

It looks like you could buy the ticket in the
station when you travel rather than buy the rail pass (4 days in a month
wouldn't suit you as you will use more than 4 days, I think you need at least
buy 8 days in a month).
To get a cheaper price, you'd better avoid Friday
evening and peak time (8-9am & 5-6pm).

Windermere is the biggest lake in
the south of the lakes district and the most visited. you might stay in the
youth hostel there, it's quite cheap.
Or you could find lots of Bed &
Breakfast, about 20 per person.
It's very much like Switzerland - lakes and
mountains but raining all the time.
After that, you may come to visit us
in Chester, it's a very small city with lots of characters. we could show you
around. You could stay with us on Sunday evening and take a train to Liverpool
on Monday for a one day trip if you're interested in Beatles's
hometown.
Stratford-upon-Avon is also worth a visit, it's Shakespeare's
home town and very popular among
tourist although B&B is more expensive.
Bath is also a beautiful town worth a visit, only one and half hour away from
London.

¦Û¥Ñ¦æ?(¦Û¥Ñ¦æ§Ų́S¦³¥æ³q¤u¨ã)Do you have any suggestion?

The package tour would take you everywhere by bus but may be inflexible.
It's not difficult to travel by train but you'll have to carry your luggage
everywhere which might be a little bit inconvenient. Bear in mind, the train
ticket is not cheap.
If you want to see everything as mush as you could, you should take the package
tour. Or if you just want a relaxing time in UK, you might just pick up two or
three cities and take the train. Finding a Bed&Breakfast around the train
station is not too difficult.
If you want to take the package tour, you may try Scotland tour, it's really
very beautiful and very different from England.
http://www.contiki.com/
In Contiki web site, you'll see the price and timetable of the pckage.
they have travel agency in taipei and you could book the tour in Taipei or you
just book it when you're in UK.
By the way, where's Lechester? I couldn't find it on the map.
You're welcome to visit us in Chester and stay with us. Chester is an ancient
Roman city with city wall and canal, very relaxing and nice to visit.
Lydia
Dear Lydia:
Thank you for your information on your website. I really enjoy it!!
I plan to visit London on Oct 6, 2000.
I want to visit Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, and the countryside such Bibury
by car.
Could you tell me it is proper to make a car rental after the fuel crises
happened?
And which website I can check the ticket price by train?
Thank you for your help.
09/29/2000
Hi,
There's no more fuel crisis in UK.
Everyone could get as much petrol as he likes now.
So you should be fine to hire a car travelling around UK.
If you want to travel by train, you should buy the rail pass in Taiwan before
you come to UK as it's
cheaper and you couldn't buy it in UK.
For the train ticket price and timetable , you could register to this web site
and do the query.
www.thetrainline.com
I have a list of some useful web site. you may take a look

Hi,
in London, you might want to go to see some musicals in West End and
BBC Proms in Albert Hall. The
best way to know how to explore the city is
through the tourist center. They're usually very
helpful.
Edinburgh
Festival will be around the last three weeks in August. It will be very much
fun.

If you want to make your travel plan,
you'd better bring a travel book with you. Or just visit some
travel agents'
website and see how they arrrange their schedule. Or you could talk to people in
the
school when you're in London. I believe you'll find some very good
information from them or be lucky
to find a partner.
Accommandation
might be a problem in the weekends. But you could always find lots of B&B in
the
popular tourist sites. They usually have accommandation information in
railway station and tourist
center. Might be difficult but you should be
fine. Just don't panic. And don't hang around in the
street in the midnight.
Lots of drunk guys around after 11pm.
Go to visit "Resource" web page in
my website, you'll find some useful links of travelling in
UK.

Hi,
You must feel very excited now as the departure day is approaching.
How many days are you going to stay in UK by the way?
The places you're going to visit all look very interesting. I bet you have done lots of survey.
The weather is very pleasant now and supposed to be very good in August when you'll be here.
So don't worry about the weather too much. But It might be wise to bring a light coat with you as it might
become cold in the evening. Or you could just buy on when you're here. You could get a very good deal in
summer sale season.
How are you going to travel in UK? by train or by bus? It's always cheaper to travel by bus in UK. The
price of bus ticket could be only 50% of the train ticket. You should be able to find the bus station in every
city you go to. Get a timetable in London bus station ot tourist office and you could plan your schedule in
advance. If you want to travel by train, you might want to buy a UK Railway Pass. You could find
information on the following website.
Train ticket is quite expensive in UK. always but it several days before your departure and avoid working
hours (8.00-9.30pm) and (4.00-6.00pm) and Friday night. One-way ticket is almost the same price as
return ticket. So I guess you couldn't benefit from the return ticket discount.
If you want to know the ticket price, go to this site and register to become a member. You'll be able to find
the ticket price online.
If you're students or under 26, you should apply for the National Students card in Taiwan so that you
could get lots of discount for everything.
Find a good accommodation could be very tricky as August is the high season. Bed and Breakfast is
everywhere and quite reasonable price. When you walk into a B&B, always ask to check the room first. If
you're not happy with the room, just say you'll think about it and come back later. People do that all the
time.
All you have to do is bring yourself to UK and then take your time hanging around in London to get used to
it. You'll find everything is easy to cope with just like Taipei. Nothing to worry about too much. Don't forget
to reconfirm your flight before you're to fly back.
Hope this help!
By the way, I live in Chester.
Lydia ¡@
Dear Lydia,
Thanks for your help!

Hi, No, it's not dangerous for two girls travelling in UK. Lots of people travel in UK alone. Just don't stay on the streets in the midnight when all the drunk people get out of the pub. When someone approch you and ask for money to go home or do something, just go away. Don't panic while you couldn't understand what poeple are talking. It takes some time to get used to English accent. Besides, the places you're visiting are all very popular tourist sites, so it should be very safe.
You could take a train from Chester to Bangor, about 1.5 hour, From Bangor, you could take a bus to Caernarfon, about 30-40 min ; or LLanberis (Snowdonia), about 40 min. From Caernarfon, you could easily take a bus to LLanberis (Snowdonia), about 30 min. Go to the tourist center or ask peopel in train station, they'll tell you how to get to Snowdonia. Most people go to Snowdonia from Caernarfon. So you won't have a problem! We've been to Caernarfon last October. I'ts a small town with a big castle. Form there we drove to Snowdonia. Snowdonia is really very different from England and evry beauitufl.
Go to this site and you'll find the timetable of all the train in UK. http://www.railtrack.co.uk/
Edinburgh Festival is from 12th of August until 3rd of September. So if you happen to be in Edinburgh at that time, it should be very much fun. http://www.go-edinburgh.co.uk/ Things don't change very much in UK, so the information you have might be all right. As for the visit while you're in Chester, if you have time you could give us a call while you're in the town. We'll be happy to show you around and maybe meet up for an evening meal.

Hi,
We didn't register in Taiwan, only a wedding banquet is held in September.
We decided to have the wedding ceremony in UK as we intended to live in UK after the
wedding.
So we held a wedding ceremony and got our marriage certificate in UK. As far as I know, I
could take
the certificate to Taiwan consulate office in London and register the marriage but I never
bothered
to do it. I'll sort it out before I move back to Taiwan. I think it's no problem at all.
So I think you should try to call the Taiwan office in Australia to find out the way to do it.
Or call the American embassy in Australia, they should know what to do and might be able to
issue a
legal marriage certificate as your husband is an American citizen. Then you could take the
document
to register in Taiwan.
If you're planning to get married in Taiwan, you'll have to sign on the Taiwanese wedding
document
and then translate it to English and ask the Foreign Affair Department to validate it. This is
really much hassle. I believe it will be better to ask American consulate office in Taipei to issue
the marriage certificate and then register in Taiwan. US marriage certificate will be far easier
for Australia government to deal with.
I'm not sure if you could work or not as you're still holding a Taiwan passport. You might be able
to work in US but maybe not in Australia. You'll have to find out the rule in Australia. Basically,
you could get the information easily in the Australia office in Taipei I guess.
I could work in UK but not other European country as my husband is UK citizen and I'm still a
Taiwan
citizen.
you'll find lots of information here.
Hope this help!

Hi,
You should be able to find lots of pension, hotel,
hostel on the street when you get there.
It's nothing to worry about. Or go to the tourist
information center, they have lists of all the hotel, pension.
If you want to book a room before you go, you
could try the pension I stayed before.
it's about 1350 for a double room.

I do miss Taiwan especially the tasty food and the busy street in the
evening.
It's no doubt that mother country is the best place to live in. I personally
think Taiwan is a very good place to live considering the living expense and
life style. Maybe good for Chinese people.
I regards UK as a place I'll spend some time of my life to live but maybe
not all my life. We're always thinking to go to live in somewhere different
if we could. I guess this makes my life here more like a holiday which I'd
like to make the most of it.
So I guess it's the way you look at things which makes your life different
from others.
I guess I'm lucky enough to meet the right guy at the right time and have
the chance to live a different life. Travel is my destiny I guess!

xxx,
Nice to get your message and know that you're in the similar situation.
I believe you and you bf will sort out everything eventually like we did.
To be honest, it was quite a tough decision to make and involved lots of hassle.
But I was pretty sure it's the right decision for me and would enjoy the life with my husband in
UK.
We both think we'll go back to Taiwan eventually, which makes my life in UK more like a
holiday for
me.
I guess this makes the difference. I tend to try my best to enjoy my life here as like I wouldn't be
here for too long.
I was quite uncertain about everything before I came to UK. I was worried about everything like
finding a job, losing friends and not being able to enjoy the weather and food. But everything
seems
fine when I was here. I got used to the cold weather and enjoyed relaxing time hanging around in
city center while my husband was working. Life was easy and enjoyable. Then I felt more
confident to
look for a job and I did eventually get one. Now when I look back at all my worries, it makes me
laugh.
I think you'll work it out eventually if you really want to. And I do think you will have much
more
fun in London than I did in Chester. in the end of the day, everything happens in London. Take it
easy and you'll enjoy it better.
wish you the best luck
Cheers,

It's Valhalla Ride in Blackpool - Blackpool is situated on the North West Coast of
England. it's quite popular and lots of tourist waiting in the queue all the time. Maybe you have to
go in a weekday rather than weekend as lots of English people like to spend their holiday in Blackpool.
London Eye is also very popular.
Have a nice holiday!

You might wonder that who is Tom. Ha........ ¡@
I am Tom Chen who studying in Finance in Lancaster University. I found your website and read all of your articles. It seems that you have a very good time in UK. I (So am I ) By the way, it is very nice to find the right one in love with you.:P
In your article, you mention a website "stepstone" which is a job searching company. Is the company you are working for? I just wonder about how can I get a job in UK. I know it is very hard. Besides language requirement, is there any special requirement for the foreigner, such as working permission? You know that students here can not get the permission!!!! How should I do? You do not need to answer me questions if you are busy. Just say hello and hope your sweet time can last forever. Have a good time.
Sincerely yours,
Tom Chen

Hi, I have a friend who just passed his viva of his doctor's degree in economics recently. And he happens to study in Lancaster as well. So it's quite interesting to get your email indeed.
As for the job searching in UK, I'm not sure if you could get a working permit easily. I could work here as I'm married and have my permit to stay here which allows me to work as well. Most of the companies might ask you to have a working permit first before they could give you the job. some might be able to give you a job and a letter to help you applying for a working permit. There might be some way for you to apply for a working permit in UK but I don't know how and if it's easy or not. There might be some hints there or you could post your question and hope someone could help. I'm not working for stepstone! I found my current job through a job agency in Chester. But I did look for a job oppertunity on Jobserve and sent lots of cv out.

Sorry for not being able to help since I don't know the proper procedure
to
apply for a work permit.
I remember I once saw a message on the message
board about a guy who
applied for his work permit after he got a letter from
the company who want
to employ him. I think you might be able to find the
message on FCC board.
It might be one month ago.
Maybe try to post a
message on the board and there might be people who could
help.
good
